Leadership & Educational Congress - Dr. K. D. Yarber Sr., President

The Great Lakes District Baptist Leadership & Educational Congress is the education arm of the Great Lakes Baptist District Association. We are charged with the task of providing learning opportunities to help individuals grow spiritually and in their work and witness in the world for Christ. To become strong Christians, we must follow the mandate found in Second Timothy 2:15 which states, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (KJV). In January, we host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Day Program which supports the work of the Congress. This is the second service of the year and it serves as source of inspiration. The Congress, which is held the second week of May, provides an opportunity for us to come together as one collective body to study God's word and learn to do the work He has commissioned us to do. We invite you to join us for these and other educational events.

Leadership & Educational Congress - Dr. Brenda Harrison, Dean

The Great Lakes District Leadership & Educational Congress is entering its 69th year of providing Christian Education for the District. While the methods of teaching and the delivery of content are constantly evolving with the use of technology, the message is still the same. Our goal is to provide knowledge and tools that will help you grow individually and collectively. Beginnining in 2022, we are planning to present new workshops geared toward addressing many of the issues we are facing today. To accomplish this, we are looking to expand our teaching staff via a new program called the Workshop Incubator. If you enjoy teaching and you are a pastor, minister, or lay person with a recommendation from your pastor, we invite you to join this program. Please reach out to me if you are interested.

Women's Auxiliary - Sis. Marilyn Fuller, President

Christian women responding to the clarion call of Jesus. The Women's Auxiliary strives to be known in the world as women who serve. We do this by sharing Christ and caring for others, being concerned about meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. If you have longing for a closer walk with the Lord, a desire for fellowship with your sisters in Christ, and a heart for service, join us every third Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m. The meeting place will be announced.

Ministers Wives and Widows - Sis. Futha Williams, President

The Ministers Wives and Widows auxiliary provides support, encouragement, and genuine concern for our sisters who work along-side their husbands in the ministry. We share in the ups, downs, and challenges each sister experiences along this journey. In addition to supporting each other, each year we select a non-profit organization to assist in a special way. If you are the wife or widow of a minister looking for sisterly support and fellowship, we welcome you with open hearts and and open minds. Regular meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are hosted by various churches within the District. The May meeting is held on the first Monday of the month due to the District Congress. There are no meetings in July and September. We end the year with our Annual Christmas Banquet in lieu of our regular meeting in December.

District Music Department - Sis. Shirley Bailey-Gilbert, President

"O sing unto the Lord a new song..." (Psalm 96:1, KJV). The Great Lakes District Choir is a music ministry that sings praises unto the Lord. We cover a variety of genres such as hymns, spirituals, gospel and anthems. Our goal is to minister through song at every District service and other engagements when invited. Beginning in January 2022, we will rehearse at New Zion Baptist Church every 4th Friday at 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 1601 Chippewa Street. If you sing, direct, play a musical instrument or just enjoy praising God, we invite you to join us.

District Ushers - Sis. Lamerle Morgan, President

The Ushers of the Great Lakes Baptist District Association count it an honor and a privilege to stand at the door of God's house. We are on our post at every District service and are available at the Moderator's request. The District ushers meet every first Saturday at 5 p.m. during the months of October, November, and March through September. All meetings are held at the Great Lakes Baptist District Center, 5905 North Saginaw Street and Home Avenue. We do not meet during the months of December, January and February. If you enjoy providing service to others, we invite you to join us in serving the District.

Youth Department - Sis. Beverly Harrison, Director

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Great Lakes Baptist District Youth Department seeks to religiously educate our youth. It is our hope the youth will grow up to love God, honor His word, and be filled with the knowledge, spiritual understanding and wisdom necessary to live a purposeful life worthy of service to God and others for kingdom building. We meet on the second Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at assigned churches. Classes are available for youth ages 3-18. There is an adult class for those in attendance as well. We actively engage in special events and activities throughout the year. The youth department also participates in events and activities within the Wolverine State Congress and Convention Youth Departments. All youth and/or adults who wish to participate in the District Youth Department should contact their local church youth directors and/or leaders.

District Laymen - Deacon John Hardy II, President

"And the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him and said, the Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour" (James 6:15, KJV). Because Christ suffered, bled and died for the sins of mankind, the Laymen's purpose is to become disciples of Christ, supporters of our Pastors' vision for our churches, strong leaders of our family and change agents in the community. As we become disciples of Christ, we strive to serve as role-models for the young men in our churches. If you have a heart for mankind and a commitment to Christ, please join us in this ministry. We meet every first Saturday of the month at 9:00 a.m. for a breakfast fellowship. Currently our meetings are being held virtually. You are welcome to join us on Zoom. Please contact me or any District Layman for the meeting ID and passcode.
